You Can Succeed With Breastfeeding
First time mothers that have made the decision to breastfeed their baby are likely to be a little concerned with how well they will do with it. Preparing yourself with plenty of information about breastfeeding will make the first feeding as well as the many that will follow much easier on you. Read on to get some great tips to use to succeed with breastfeeding.
Locate a lactation consultant. These are wonderful people to have on call for when you run into problems. They will be able to help you prepare for breastfeeding your baby before the baby even arrives. Many consultants will even come to your hospital when your baby is born to coach you through your first few feedings. It can really help you gain confidence knowing that you have a professional there helping you.
There are many times that a baby has a difficult time learning how to latch onto the breast for their first feeding. The nurses could suggest that you give up and try feeding your baby formula until you can get it worked out, but that is not the best suggestion for successful breastfeeding. Unless the doctor recommends it for health reasons, do not give your baby formula for the first six weeks. They could end up preferring the taste of the formula over your breast milk and make things worse for you.
If you plan to pump to provide baby with bottles, you will need a very good pump. If you try to pump with a hand pump, you will quickly get discouraged. Opt for an electric double pump to cut the time that you have to spend pumping. Your consultant can help you find the one that works best. Also, check with your insurance provider to learn if they cover the cost of a breast pump. Oftentimes, they will either supply you with one or reimburse you for one that you buy on your own.
Nurse as often as you can in the early days of breastfeeding. The more you nurse, the better your supply of milk will come in. Between feedings, pump your milk even if you are not planning to give baby her first bottle for weeks. Your milk can be put in storage bags and frozen for several months before use. This could help tremendously if or when you go back to work.
Pay attention to your baby’s dirty diapers. You will learn a lot about how much she is eating by the number of wet and dirty diapers she has in a day. Do not be surprised if she does not have a dirty diaper for several days. Breastfed babies can go days without having a bowel movement when they are a couple weeks old.
There are many different positions or holds that you can use during feedings. Learn all of the holds so that you are able to reposition your baby until you find the position that she is most comfortable with.
Breastfeeding not only provides your baby with the best source of food in the early days, but it will also provide you with a bond that will last forever. Enjoy this time; you will never get it back.
Preparing For Your First Born
Preparing for the birth of the first baby in the family can be very overwhelming. What do you need now? What can wait until later down the road? These questions and more will be answered in the article below.
First and foremost, your baby is going to need somewhere to sleep when you bring her home. Bassinets or pack and plays are a great way to keep baby close for the first few months. You will get more bang for your buck if you opt for the pack and play because it can be used as a playpen when the baby is older. You will also be able to easily take it with you when you travel or visit friends and relatives and have somewhere safe for your baby to sleep.
Diapers are another necessity that you will need during the first days. You need to decide if you are going to use cloth or disposable diapers or a combination of both. Even if you are going to go with cloth diapers, you might want to buy a bag or two of disposables for the first couple of weeks. Babies go through a lot of diapers during their first weeks and what they leave in them is not exactly easy to get out of the cloth diapers. Not to mention the fact that you will be tired and recovering from giving birth and will not have the energy to mess around with washing all of those cloth liners.
You will need some skin care products. When buying the products, do not buy the large bottles at first. You do not know what products or brands the baby will be able to use. Some babies have very sensitive skin and can be allergic to some of the products. Make sure that you have rubbing alcohol, peroxide, Vaseline, diaper rash cream and triple antibiotic ointment on hand as well as the lotion and bath soaps.
You are going to find many, many little outfits that you love and want to buy for your little one. Remember that babies do not stay small for very long, so do not go crazy with the newborn size clothes. You will mostly need the bodysuits and sleepers for the first few weeks. Choose for the bodysuits that have long sleeves and have the pockets at the hands that you can use to cover baby’s hands with. This way, you do not have to worry about the mittens and she will not be able to scratch her face.
Swaddle blankets are a must have as well. Many babies do very well with swaddling and love the security that they feel when swaddled. You could opt for the Halo sleep sacks with the swaddle wrap that is removable to save some money in the future. They can be used to swaddle baby’s arms and then used as sleep sacks once baby has outgrown the desire to be swaddled.
Bottles might be something you need if you are not breastfeeding. Buy a few different brands to be sure you find one that baby will happily take. Some babies are picky about the type of nipple and having a variety at hand will help you reduce the aggravation of baby fighting your bottles.
These are the most important things to have when you are bringing home a new baby. Enjoy your time knowing that you have prepared for the arrival of your baby.
Finding Some Time For You When A Newborn Is In The House
Bringing a new life into this world is amazing and exhilarating. It is also exhausting. Trying to find a little time for you might feel impossible, but it is also essential to guarantee a little peace of mind and sanity. Here is some sound advice, valued by new parents everywhere, to get a little time alone when your munchkin comes home.
Accept help from family and friends. When a new baby enters your home, your home will likely come alive with energy as family members and friends take the time to visit and meet the new bundle of joy. While they are there, accept any offers of help. Allow your family to watch the baby while you take a peaceful, warm shower. Accept their offerings of meals so that you do not have to cook. Don’t be afraid to let them do a load of laundry or take care of the dishes. If you accept this help, you can check a few items off of your list, giving you a bit of time to relax and spend some time alone.
When the baby is asleep, make the time about you. Many a new Mom or Dad has been tempted to clean the house, take care of household errands or check an item or two off of their to do list while their newborn is asleep. Do not fall into this habit. When your baby is asleep, take the time to nap or find a good book and cuddle up on the couch. The dishes and laundry can wait, but you will find yourself exhausted if you try to take care of everything without ever taking a break.
Make sure that both parents are switching off duties in the middle of the night. A baby never sleeps for long, and this is especially true when the baby is a newborn. While sometimes it might seem easier to let one parent take care of all the overnight tasks, it really is not fair to do so. Make sure that both parents are sharing duties when baby wakes in the middle of the night. If Mom is breastfeeding, Dad can get the baby, change the diaper and bring him to Mom in bed. If bottles are being used, Mom and Dad can trade off overnight feedings. If one parent is frequently waking up more than the other through the night, perhaps the other parent can take the early mornings so that the sleepless parent can get a few hours of rest. By trading off duties, neither parent feels overwhelmed, and they can both get the quite, restful time they need.
Life with a new baby in the house is hardly restful, but it is possible to carve out a little quiet and alone time if you plan things right. By taking advantage of help when it is offered and equally dividing tasks between both parents, it is easy to feel a small sense of peace and quiet even when a tiny baby consumes your world.
Benefits Of Breastfeeding Your Newborn Child
Breast milk has absolutely one hundred percent of the nutrients that your baby requires, and best of all, it is completely free! You will never have to make a late night trip to the store to pick it up, and you do not have to worry about bringing bottles, nipples, and formula with you when you travel. Many women, however, do not breastfeed simply because they have encountered myths about breast milk that they believe to be true.
Breast milk, in and of itself, will provide your baby with absolutely all of the vitamins and minerals that she requires. It is a complete source of nutrition for your child, and does not need to be supplemented with any other ingredients. Breast milk is enough for babies! It is highly digestible for babies, more so than formula, and provides them with all the calories they need. Your body will produce enough breast milk for your child, although you may choose to supplement with formula if you want.
Breastfeeding is possible for working mothers. It is not just for stay at home moms! Women who work can purchase a high quality breast pump and manually pump their breast milk at work, saving the milk for the child to drink later from a bottle. This can be a way for other family members to feed the baby, as well. Many employers these days have a special room for nursing mothers to use for privacy. If your employer does not, talk with him or her about possible options.
Some people believe the old myth that babies who are nursed will grow up to be spoiled. This is simply false, short and sweet. There is absolutely no scientific link between breastfeeding and children who are spoiled! Breastfeeding can be an excellent way to bond with your child, and is an experience that many women grow to enjoy.
If you take medication, you will want to discuss breastfeeding with your doctor. Always follow his or her guidance! Some types of medications are compatible with breastfeeding, and others may be dangerous to your child. This applies to medications that you can purchase without a prescription, as well. And don’t forget about caffeine – if you drink coffee, some of the caffeine will enter your milk supply and be transmitted to your child. Keep this in mind!
Breastfeeding offers numerous benefits to your child, and to you, as well! For starters, you will find it easier to shed post-pregnancy pounds if you breastfeed. Because breastfed babies are healthier, you are less likely to miss work because of a sick child, as well. You are also less likely to struggle with postpartum depression. And the savings that you’ll enjoy as a result of breastfeeding cannot be overstated!
Breastfeeding offers numerous benefits to your child. You can feel proud of your choice to provide her with fully natural and complete nutrition! It is easy and much less hassle than heating up and sterilizing bottles and mixing formula, and it’s free, too!

Question by : my cousin put my mother into a nursing home after I moved to another city and threw away most of her clothes?
I’ve taken my mom home with me, because she does not need a nursing home, just someone to make sure she takes her pills twice daily. she is just not used to the fashions today and we want to make her some summer dresses is there somewhere I can get free patterns on line that are easy and suitable for an 83 year old lady?

Answer by Technique addict
Bless you!!!!!! Thank goodness you got her out of a nursing home! If all she needed was someone to help her with pills twice daily, it would be a shame for her to lose her independence. That’s not what you are asking, but I just had to give you props for taking your mom into your home. You can get patterns for $ 1 when they go on sale at JoAnn fabrics or use the coupons for 40 to 50 percent off that they have in the store, or on your smart phone (just sign up on their website or on an app.) There are lots of basic dresses that are ageless and pretty and easy to make. If she had any special needs like opening down the front so she can dress herself more easily. And you can find some nice things at thrift stores but it takes a bit of hunting. Macy’s always has nice sales and you can find things for 75% off at a good sale if you get bogged down finding time to sew. Good luck and your mom is so lucky to have you! I lost my mom to Alzheimer’s and I waited as long as absolutely possible to put her into assisted living and then to a nursing home. Enjoy your time with her and have her go thru old photos and identify relatives while you still have her as a historian for the family. If she is getting forgetful, she will most likely remember “the good old days” and many stories.

Question by dKm: Nursing Clothing Question?
Bio Info: Nursing for 4.5 months, not pumping, stay at home mom, size 42 bra, variable cup size, around a D when empty.

So many nursing clothing that I’ve seen comes with an inner layer with nursing openings. I haven’t found a nursing bra that I’ve liked, so I’ve resorted to the cotton Hanes sports bras with the thin straps that are super easy to pull down.
So, my question is, do you nursing mom’s wear a bra with these tops and dresses, or do they provide enough support. Plus, how would you get the bra unstrapped and it moved out of the way to allow your baby to nurse.
There are so few baby friendly stores in my area, so I’m shopping online. I just can’t figure out how some of these tops work!
I wish that I could just wear tank tops or sleeveless tops all year! But it’s going to get cold and I need to figure this waredrobe thing out before it does!
Also, if you have any suggestions for websites selling nursing clothing that you’ve ordered from, please share the URL. As always. thank you, Moms!
Sorry about the typos! I hate it when I find them after I’ve already posted the question!

Question by Still Learning: i need help with getting a nursing bra?
so i’m due in a few weeks, and my bras aren’t fitting, this is my second. i nursed my first for a year, but only had a couple cheap nursing bras, that were pretty uncomfortable. i wanted to get a few good ones this time around.
and plus the bras i have now (the regular ones) are getting pretty snug.
i’m normally a 36b, so i went to motherhood maternity’s web site, and it said i was a 36 c, which make sense. but when i went there today, i was still kind of spilling out of the cups a little.
i want to know if i should go to a “d” because once the milk comes i’ll be totally huge. if i should stick with a “c” since they go down once the baby is nursing.
ORRRR do i go with something like this from now until the baby comes…http://www.motherhood.com/maternity/bras-sleep-bras.asp
the first 2 look like good options because there’s no real cups and it would be a little more flexible and pretty in expensive until i know what size i am after a few months of nursing.
sorry, i’m probably thinking too much.. :-/

Walmart sells nursing bras. You can try them on like all the others. They’d be a cheap way to test what size feels more comfortable, because honestly, you’re probably going to need more than one size from now to 3months post partum.
