Your breasts may well larger then the underwire allows room for. It will be uncomfortable. Some nursing bras ARE underwire, I just ended up being poked real hard under my armpit

Question by Bassist B: Underwire nursing bras- your experiences?
My old nursing bras are getting a bit worn out so I’ve been shopping for some new ones, and I was wondering whether or not I should get one with an underwire (none of my current ones have them). Before I had my daughter I exclusively wore them and I’d love to wear one again (I am SO tired of these flimsy nursing bras that leave my “girls” hanging down to my waist!), but I’ve heard that underwires can mess with your milk supply or cause blocked ducts. While researching this I found that some people believe this is true and others believe this to be nonsense. My question is, what are your experiences with underwire bras and nursing? Should I go for it or play it safe? (By the way, my daughter is 7 months so my supply is very well established–I didn’t want to try one earlier in case it did drastically alter my supply.)

Just like everything else it varies with each person so if you are use to them and haven’t had any issues with breast pain from them then you might be fine however breastfeeding boobs are a little more sensitive sometimes so you might want to buy one and try it out to see if you like them or not. I personally hated the underwire ones as they seem to cause pain on the sides of my breasts and yes I did get clogged ducts but I can’t tell you if it was from that or not. I was more comfortable in the ones without underwires. That said my friend was more comfortable with underwires and said she didn’t get the clogged ducts and had no breast pain. So I say get one and try it out for a few days.

I looked in stores, and nobody had my size in stock. Target had one bra my size, and I didn’t like it. So online is my only option. I normally wear underwire, but I also wear plain old sports bras a lot because I like the support from them. Are sports bras good to nurse in too?
